Widening Participation and the
Recession:
Response to Silvia Florea |

Abstract
This paper reflects on the experience of attempts at
widening participation in British universities, with the
observations in Silvia Florea’s paper on this issue in mind.
Some recent debates in Britain, in the context of cuts in
higher education financing, are discussed.
